A めんどくさい review of how people have helped me in life

I’ve waited so long to be able to write my acknowledgments page for my thesis without the worry of jinxing myself somehow, haha. I had to make it as succinct as possible on the paper so here is a less formal and emotion-laden version (that the people it is dedicated to are probably never going to read anyway):

  • To my parents and lola: I’m sorry that everything you do for me seems thankless. I wish I could verbally express my heartfelt gratitude to you for supporting me through all this, but I am not a sweet and loving child. But hey, your efforts in raising me well paid off. Congrats!
  • To Ian and Dara: Thank you for being my pillars of strength. I’m lucky to have you as my main source of intellectual support. If the universe would grant me all the free time and opportunity I would love to just hang out and eat fried noodles and play card games with you (in a coalition against evil Dara, haha!) and have meaningful discussions about anything and everything in life. They’re some of my most treasured memories this year. 🙂 And to Dara… seriously, thank you for all that you do for me and for making me feel so loved.

  • To Joey and Nina: You were the first friends to enter my life when I had to start from the rock bottom, and I can’t express how happy I am that you stayed. Thank you for standing with me through tough times and being there for me in every special life event ever since. You make me feel like I’m living a brand new childhood.

  • To Cza and Nikki:  We were besties back in high school, and I’m really glad that we still are. I’m always uptight but you make me appreciate the wilder side of life 🙂 I love your spontaneity, open-mindedness, and creativity. It adds a burst of color to my otherwise deadpan world. 😀

  • To Ron: Thank you for keeping our friendship strong even outside of the internship. You take away some of the anxiety I have towards the actuarial profession, and because of it I’m more confident to take on the challenges that await me.ron
  • To Chris: You’re the only close friend I have among our BS Math batchmates, and that’s perfectly okay. As the saying goes, quality > quantity, and you are the perfect example. 🙂 We didn’t know each other well back in high school, but I’m glad I didn’t pass up the chance to get to know you in college. Without your help I probably would’ve lost my sanity a long time ago. You remained my trusted confidante through everything, and for that I’m forever grateful. I hope we can be colleagues in the future, that would make me really happy.chris
  • To Dr. David: I can’t thank you enough for providing the best conditions for thesis creation, even more so for letting me find an unexpected friend in you. You’re the weirdest and the most interesting part of my present. I really appreciate that you don’t judge me or my plans, and that you support me in my weakest moments. I love how you make me want to step right out and expand my comfort zone. I look forward to my journey to self-actualization, under your guidance.

As you might have already realized, this isn’t strictly related to thesis. It’s more of an acknowledgment of everything they’ve done for me so far in life. Without them, I doubt I would’ve gotten the courage to think of flying high, let alone get this far. These are the people to whom I owe my future.

Here’s to a brighter and better 2016 with everyone. 🙂 Excelsior!
